Volume Bubbles Chart
Where did buying or selling really stand out? Every candle's net volume, drawn as a bubble on the price line.
The Volume Bubbles Chart draws a thin close-price line for one symbol and places a bubble on each candle's close. With the default palette, green bubbles mark candles that closed up and red bubbles mark candles that closed down; the strongest candles get full bubbles labelled with their net flow.
It uses the same calculation as the Volume Bubbles chart type in FMchart's own charts, with the same settings: colour palette, net flow unit (USD or raw volume), threshold, lookback, heatmap shading, bubble size and the price line. Pick a symbol and timeframe, adjust the settings, then copy the embed code.
- Configure the widget on the right and click "Apply preview".
- Copy the embed code once it appears.
- Paste it into your website's HTML where you want the widget to show up.

How it works
- Net volume per candle: the candle's volume counts as positive when it closes above its open, negative when it closes below its open, and zero for a doji or a candle with no volume.
- Net Flow Unit: USD (default) multiplies volume by the typical price, (High + Low + Close) / 3; Volume uses the raw volume. The sign rule is the same for both.
- Ranking: each candle's absolute net flow is compared with the last Lookback candles (including itself). Its rank is the share of those candles with a smaller value, from 0% to just under 100%. At least 20 candles are needed before a candle is ranked.
- Dots vs full bubbles: a candle ranked at or above the Threshold gets a full bubble with its value; every other candle with net flow gets a small dot in the same colour. With the default Threshold of 70, roughly the top 30% of candles are full bubbles.
- Bubble size grows with how far the candle stands above the average of the lookback window, and with HeatMap on, stronger candles get a deeper colour.
- The widget loads the latest 1,000 candles for the chosen timeframe. A Lookback longer than the loaded history ranks each candle against all the candles available.
Use cases
Volume bubbles describe what already traded; they are not a forecast and not a trading signal on their own.
- Show readers of a market article where volume concentrated around a breakout or a sell-off.
- Add a compact volume-aware price chart to a coin, stock or index page on your own site.
- Compare how unusual today's activity is relative to the recent past, using a short or long lookback.
Get the embed code
Set the symbol, timeframe and Volume Bubbles options in the Settings panel, add the domain where you will embed the chart, and click "Apply preview". The embed code appears under the live preview: copy it and paste the <iframe> into your page's HTML. Choose a width of 100% to let the chart fill its container.
Open the full chart
On FMchart you can use Volume Bubbles as a chart type with drawings, indicators and multi-chart layouts: open Charts and choose "Volume Bubbles" in the chart type menu.
Frequently asked questions
What does a bubble represent?
One candle's net volume: its volume counted as positive if the candle closed up and negative if it closed down. The bubble sits at the candle's close price; full bubbles show the net flow value, for example $12.5M in USD mode.
What is the Threshold setting?
The rank, from 0 to 99, a candle needs to get a full bubble instead of a small dot. 0 gives every candle a full bubble, 70 (default) keeps roughly the top 30%, and 90 keeps roughly the top 10% of the lookback window.
What does Lookback change?
How many recent candles each candle is ranked against (20 to 5,000, default 300). A longer lookback compares with more history, so a big past spike raises the bar and fewer candles become full bubbles; a shorter one reacts more to recent activity.
Why is the USD value different from the volume?
USD mode multiplies each candle's volume by its typical price, (High + Low + Close) / 3, so candles at different price levels are comparable in money terms. Switch Net Flow Unit to Volume to use the raw traded quantity.
Which symbols and timeframes work?
Any symbol FMchart has candle history for, in EXCHANGE:TICKER format, on 5m, 15m, 1h, 4h, 1d, 1w or 1mo candles. Symbols without volume data show no bubbles, only the price line.
How often does the widget refresh?
It reloads the latest candles about once a minute while the page is visible. It is meant for reference display, not for automated trading.
