What is crypto trading volume?

Trading volume is the US-dollar value of all trades in a market over a period, usually the last 24 hours. High volume means many buyers and sellers are active, which usually comes with tighter spreads and prices that are harder to move.

What is the difference between spot and perpetual volume?

Spot volume comes from buying and selling the coin itself. Perpetual volume comes from perpetual swaps — futures contracts without an expiry date that track the coin's price and are often traded with leverage. The two are different markets, so FMchart adds them without double counting.

How should I read the Futures-to-Spot ratio?

The ratio divides perpetual volume by spot volume for the same coins on the same exchanges (Binance, Gate and Bitget) over the same hours. A ratio of 3× means three dollars traded in perpetual swaps for every dollar traded spot. It compares the size of the two markets; it does not by itself indicate price direction or market-wide leverage.

How does FMchart calculate volume?

Spot volume is the sum of volume × close of FMchart composite spot candles for the coins FMchart tracks, built from 9 spot exchanges. Perpetual volume is each exchange's rolling 24-hour volume, counted once per trade and limited to volume FMchart has verified. Historical perpetual bars use completed hourly candles. Missing data is shown as —, never as zero.

Which data sources does this page use and how often is it updated?

Spot data comes from FMchart composite candles of 9 spot exchanges; perpetual volume from 12 derivatives exchanges, of which 8 publish hourly candles (history since 15 Sep 2026). Exchanges whose data terms do not allow display are counted in totals but not named. Figures refresh every 60 seconds; charts every 5 minutes. All times are UTC.
