About Nervos Network (CKB)
Nervos Network (CKB) is a Layer 1 blockchain whose native token is the CKByte, or CKB. A CKByte represents one byte of state storage on the network. CKB is also used for transaction and computation fees and can be deposited into the Nervos DAO.
CKByte and storage
Nervos links token ownership with blockchain state capacity. Holding 100 CKB allows a user to occupy 100 bytes of on-chain state. When that state is removed, the corresponding CKB becomes available again. This model connects token demand with the amount of state stored on the network.
Proof of Work
Nervos CKB uses Proof of Work to secure its Layer 1. Miners receive rewards from both base issuance and secondary issuance. The secondary issuance is linked to state occupation and provides an ongoing incentive for miners after primary issuance eventually ends.
CKB issuance and halving
Nervos launched with an initial supply of 33.6 billion CKB, with 8.4 billion burned soon after launch. Its base issuance totals 33.6 billion and halves every four years until primary issuance reaches zero. The next scheduled base-issuance halving is expected in November 2027.
Nervos DAO
CKB holders can deposit tokens into the Nervos DAO and receive rewards from secondary issuance. The mechanism provides a way for holders to participate in the network's economic model without operating a mining node.
CKB risks
CKB's economics depend on state demand, mining security and the interaction between primary and secondary issuance. The token's storage function also means supply and network usage are connected in a way that differs from conventional smart-contract platforms.
