Volume Bubbles Chart (1h)

Each 1-hour candle's volume is signed by its direction (up candles count as net buying, down candles as net selling) and drawn as a bubble at the closing price, green for buying and red for selling. Bubble size and colour intensity show how strong that flow is compared with the last 300 candles: the strongest 30% get full bubbles with their USD value, the rest stay as small dots. Unusually large bubbles flag aggressive buying or selling worth a closer look, often near breakouts, reversals or key levels.

Seasonal Chart

Plots one line per calendar year showing the % change since the start of that year, with the current year highlighted against up to four previous years. Lining the years up on the same calendar shows whether the price tends to rise or fall in the same months, helping you spot recurring seasonal patterns. Treat it as context rather than a forecast: past seasonality does not guarantee future moves.

About NEAR Protocol (NEAR)

NEAR Protocol (NEAR) is a proof-of-stake blockchain designed to be easy for both developers and everyday users. It went live in 2020 and is built around sharding, which splits the network's workload into parallel pieces. Accounts can carry readable names such as alice.near instead of long strings of characters. The NEAR token pays for transactions and data storage and secures the chain through staking. On this page, NEAR is priced through FMchart's composite, which blends several major exchanges into a single dollar quote.

Sharding: splitting the work

NEAR splits its work into shards. Instead of running many separate chains, the network produces a single chain whose blocks contain pieces, called chunks, from each shard. A validator only needs to process some shards, so total capacity can rise by adding more of them. Shards pass messages to one another, which means a transaction that starts in one shard can trigger actions in another a few blocks later.

Readable accounts and chain abstraction

Usability is a recurring theme. Besides named accounts, NEAR lets one account hold several access keys, so an app can be allowed to perform limited actions without full control of a wallet. The project also promotes chain abstraction. A feature called chain signatures lets a NEAR account sign transactions for addresses on other blockchains, such as Bitcoin or Ethereum. The aim is to let people use apps across networks without juggling separate wallets.

Staking and the 2025 inflation cut

NEAR started with a supply of 1 billion tokens and has no fixed maximum. New tokens are created every year to reward validators and the holders who delegate stake to them. In late October 2025, validators adopted a protocol upgrade, shipped in nearcore 2.9.0, that halved maximum annual inflation from 5% to 2.5%. About 70% of the gas spent on each transaction is burned, and 30% rewards the contract that was called. As a result, staking yields fell, and fewer new tokens enter circulation each year than before.

How upgrades are adopted

NEAR's node software, nearcore, is developed in the open on GitHub. New protocol versions ship in numbered releases, and validators who support a change upgrade their nodes before a scheduled vote. The new version activates only if enough stake backs it by the end of the voting epoch. The October 2025 inflation cut followed this path in release 2.9.0.

What could hold NEAR back

NEAR competes with many smart contract platforms that also promise speed and low fees, and several have larger app ecosystems. Its supply keeps growing through inflation, even at the lower rate. Tokenomics depend on validator and community decisions, which can change again. Cross-chain tools add convenience but also new technical risks. NEAR's price has seen large swings in past market cycles, and staking rewards are never guaranteed.

NEAR Protocol (NEAR) FAQ

What is NEAR Protocol?

NEAR Protocol is a sharded proof-of-stake blockchain for running apps and smart contracts. Its token, NEAR, pays for transactions and storage and is staked to secure the network. NEAR puts a strong focus on usability, with readable account names and chain signatures that let one account act on other blockchains.

How does NEAR sharding work?

NEAR splits the network into shards. Each block on the single NEAR chain holds chunks produced by different shards, and each validator processes only part of the network's work. Adding shards raises total capacity. Messages between shards let a transaction that starts in one shard finish its actions in another.

What are chain signatures on NEAR?

Chain signatures let a NEAR account sign transactions for addresses on other blockchains, such as Bitcoin or Ethereum. In practice, one NEAR account can control assets on several networks without separate wallets. The feature is a core part of NEAR's chain abstraction approach, which aims to hide the differences between blockchains from users.

How much is NEAR worth today?

NEAR is trading near $4.4196 per token, based on FMchart's composite of several major exchange prices. In the last 24 hours, about $190.0M worth of NEAR changed hands across the exchanges in FMchart's composite. Prices on any one platform can be slightly different. Look beside the price for the 24-hour range.

What is NEAR's market cap, and is there a maximum supply?

NEAR's market capitalization stands at about $5.79B, which puts it at number 20 by market cap. Around 1,310,053,015 NEAR are circulating. There is no maximum supply. The network started with 1 billion tokens and creates new ones each year to pay validators, at up to 2.5% a year since October 2025.

What was NEAR's all-time high?

NEAR reached its all-time high of $20.44 on Jan 16, 2022. Like many smart contract tokens, it has had deep drawdowns after market peaks. A past high says nothing certain about future prices. The Price Statistics panel also shows NEAR's all-time low and how far the current price is from both records.

How has NEAR performed over past months?

In FMchart's composite price history (since September 2022), NEAR's best month is September 2026 (+177.9%), while November 2022 (-44.5%) is its worst. The Monthly Returns (USD) grid lists every month in that period, and the Annual Price (USD) Change table shows full years. These numbers describe the past and are not a forecast.

How does NEAR staking work?

Staking NEAR means delegating tokens to a validator, which uses the combined stake to produce blocks and earns newly issued NEAR as rewards. Validators share those rewards with delegators after taking a fee. Since the October 2025 inflation cut, yields are lower than before. Unstaking involves a waiting period, and rewards are not guaranteed.

Is NEAR a good investment?

FMchart does not provide investment advice. NEAR runs a sharded network that has operated since 2020. It also faces heavy competition among smart contract platforms, ongoing token inflation and uncertain demand for its cross-chain tools. Its price has been highly volatile in past market cycles.

What moves the price of NEAR?

NEAR usually tracks the wider crypto market. Project-specific drivers include app and user activity, staking participation, changes to inflation or other tokenomics, partnerships and adoption of chain signatures. Exchange listings, governance decisions about tokenomics and broader regulation can also influence demand.
