Volume Bubbles Chart (1h)
Each 1-hour candle's volume is signed by its direction (up candles count as net buying, down candles as net selling) and drawn as a bubble at the closing price, green for buying and red for selling. Bubble size and colour intensity show how strong that flow is compared with the last 300 candles: the strongest 30% get full bubbles with their USD value, the rest stay as small dots. Unusually large bubbles flag aggressive buying or selling worth a closer look, often near breakouts, reversals or key levels.Seasonal Chart
Plots one line per calendar year showing the % change since the start of that year, with the current year highlighted against up to four previous years. Lining the years up on the same calendar shows whether the price tends to rise or fall in the same months, helping you spot recurring seasonal patterns. Treat it as context rather than a forecast: past seasonality does not guarantee future moves.POL (ex-MATIC) Markets

About POL (ex-MATIC)
POL is the native token of the Polygon network and the successor to MATIC. In September 2024, Polygon PoS switched its gas token from MATIC to POL, with a one-for-one conversion. POL pays transaction fees on Polygon PoS and is staked by the validators that secure the chain. The POL figures on this page use FMchart's composite, an average of several exchanges expressed in dollars.
From MATIC to POL
On Polygon PoS itself, every transaction since September 2024 has used POL for gas. MATIC held on Ethereum needs a separate step: it can be converted one for one through the Polygon Portal. About a year after the switch, Polygon reported that 99% of MATIC had moved to POL. POL began with the same 10 billion supply that MATIC had. Polygon's documentation notes that contracts expecting MATIC from the bridge need checking, since POL is the native token there.
A 2% yearly emission
POL adds new tokens every year. After June 2025, the effective emission is 2% a year, split evenly between two uses. One half rewards validators through the Polygon PoS staking contract, and the other goes to a community treasury. A contract called EmissionManager mints the tokens and cannot go above a fixed per-second limit. Polygon's original plan was to keep these emissions running for ten years.
Rio and a payments focus
In October 2025, Polygon PoS activated the Rio upgrade. Under Rio, validators elect a small pool of block producers, a design Polygon says essentially eliminates chain reorganizations and brings near-instant finality. Polygon says this raised capacity more than threefold. Rio also added stateless validation, so nodes can check blocks without storing the full chain state. Polygon presents the network as built for fast, low-cost payments, with capacity of around 5,000 transactions per second.
Base-fee burns
Polygon PoS also collects base fees that can be burned. In September 2026, Polygon said the community had completed a burn of 100 million POL from previously collected base fees. Polygon Foundation CEO Sandeep Nailwal said later burns would happen quarterly and could be triggered by anyone. Whether total supply rises or falls depends on emissions versus burns. The burns do not create a hard cap.
Dilution and execution risk
The 2% yearly emission dilutes holders who do not stake, and burn sizes depend on how much activity, and therefore base fees, the network attracts. Polygon competes with many other blockchains, including Ethereum layer 2 networks, for payments, stablecoins and apps. New products and partnerships bring execution risk, and much of the strategy depends on decisions by Polygon Labs and the community. Like other crypto assets, POL has gone through large price swings.

POL (ex-MATIC) (POL) FAQ
What is POL, and is it the same as MATIC?
POL is the token that replaced MATIC on the Polygon network in September 2024, at a one-for-one rate. It pays gas fees on Polygon PoS and is staked by validators. POL keeps MATIC's role but adds a 2% yearly emission split between validator rewards and a community treasury.
Do I need to convert MATIC to POL?
It depends on where the MATIC sits. On Polygon PoS, POL has been the gas token since September 2024. MATIC held on Ethereum can still be converted one for one through the Polygon Portal. Exchanges handled the switch in their own way, so holders there should check their platform's notices.
What is the Polygon Rio upgrade?
Rio is a Polygon PoS upgrade activated in October 2025 to make the chain better suited to payments. Validators elect a small pool of block producers, which Polygon says removes reorg risk and gives near-instant finality. It also lets nodes verify blocks without storing the full state, cutting hardware costs.
What is POL worth right now?
POL sells for around $0.0899 on FMchart's composite, one dollar value built from several exchanges. Roughly $4.40M of POL changed hands in the past 24 hours across the exchanges in FMchart's composite. Quotes on Polygon-based DEXs or individual exchanges can differ by a small margin.
How many POL tokens are there?
About 10,639,128,099 POL are in circulation, compared with the 10 billion MATIC supply that POL inherited in 2024. There is no maximum cap: emissions add about 2% a year, while burns of base fees remove some tokens. At today's price the market cap is close to $956.7M, putting POL at rank 77.
Does POL's all-time high include MATIC's history?
Usually not. Market data tracks POL as its own token, so peaks MATIC reached before the September 2024 switch may not be counted. POL's listed all-time high is $1.29, set on Mar 13, 2024. The Price Statistics panel pairs that with the all-time low and the distance from both.
How has POL performed in FMchart's records?
In FMchart's composite price history (since September 2024), POL's monthly results range from November 2024 (+86.5%) at best to February 2025 (-33.3%) at worst. A month-by-month list sits in the Monthly Returns (USD) table, with quarter-end closes in the Quarterly Closing Price (USD) table below it. These figures look backward only.
What is the Agglayer Breakout Program?
It is a Polygon program through which POL holders can become eligible for community airdrops from new projects. Polygon has listed Katana, Billions and Miden among them. The company presents it as one of the extra uses planned for POL, alongside staking rewards on Polygon PoS.
Is POL a good investment?
No one can promise that, and FMchart does not provide investment advice. POL has a long-running network and a payments strategy, but it also has ongoing 2% emissions, heavy competition and execution risk. Like other crypto assets, its price can rise or fall sharply.
What affects the price of POL?
POL tends to follow the wider crypto market. Polygon-specific factors include transaction activity and fees on Polygon PoS, staking participation, the 2% yearly emission and quarterly base-fee burns. Partnerships in payments and stablecoins also matter. Changes to tokenomics through governance could also affect POL.
