Volume Bubbles Chart (1h)
Each 1-hour candle's volume is signed by its direction (up candles count as net buying, down candles as net selling) and drawn as a bubble at the closing price, green for buying and red for selling. Bubble size and colour intensity show how strong that flow is compared with the last 300 candles: the strongest 30% get full bubbles with their USD value, the rest stay as small dots. Unusually large bubbles flag aggressive buying or selling worth a closer look, often near breakouts, reversals or key levels.Seasonal Chart
Plots one line per calendar year showing the % change since the start of that year, with the current year highlighted against up to four previous years. Lining the years up on the same calendar shows whether the price tends to rise or fall in the same months, helping you spot recurring seasonal patterns. Treat it as context rather than a forecast: past seasonality does not guarantee future moves.Zcash Markets

About Zcash (ZEC)
Zcash (ZEC) is a mined cryptocurrency that gives users a choice of financial privacy. It launched in October 2016 and grew out of academic research into zero-knowledge proofs. Like Bitcoin, it has a hard cap of 21 million coins and uses proof-of-work. Unlike Bitcoin, it can hide the sender, the receiver and the amount of a payment. The Zcash price on this page is FMchart's composite, built from quotes on several large exchanges and expressed in US dollars.
Shielded and transparent addresses
Zcash supports two kinds of addresses. Transparent addresses behave much like Bitcoin's, so balances and transfers are visible on the public chain. Shielded addresses use zero-knowledge proofs, known as zk-SNARKs, to show that a payment is valid without revealing its details. An owner can share a viewing key with an auditor or accountant, who can then see that shielded activity. Many exchanges handle only transparent deposits, so shielding usually happens inside a wallet.
Halo 2 ends the trusted setup
Early versions of Zcash depended on a 'trusted setup' ceremony to create cryptographic parameters. Had anyone kept the secret material from that ceremony, they could in theory have forged coins without detection. The NU5 network upgrade in May 2022 introduced the Orchard shielded pool, which runs on a proving system called Halo 2. Halo 2 needs no trusted setup, which removed that long-standing worry for new shielded payments.
Block rewards and the development fund
New ZEC is created as miners add blocks, and the block reward halves about every four years, as in Bitcoin. The second halving took place in November 2024. Not every coin goes to miners. Since the NU6.1 upgrade in November 2025, 8% of each reward funds Zcash Community Grants. Another 12% flows into a fund whose grants are approved by votes of ZEC holders, and the remaining 80% goes to miners.
The people behind the protocol
Zcash was launched by a team led by Zooko Wilcox, building on a research design called Zerocash. For years the main developer was the Electric Coin Company (ECC). In January 2026, the ECC team left Bootstrap, the nonprofit that owned the company, after a dispute with its board. They set up a new firm called Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL). The Zcash Foundation and other groups also work on the protocol, which kept running normally.
Why privacy coins carry extra risk
Privacy coins draw closer regulatory attention than most cryptocurrencies, and access to them on exchanges varies from country to country. Zcash development relies on a small number of funded teams, so disputes over money or control can unsettle the market, as the 2026 ECC split showed. Mining keeps adding new coins until the cap is reached. ZEC has also gone through long declines and sharp rallies since its launch.

Zcash (ZEC) FAQ
What is Zcash (ZEC)?
Zcash is a mined cryptocurrency with optional privacy. ZEC can move between transparent addresses, which work like Bitcoin's, or shielded addresses that hide the sender, receiver and amount using zero-knowledge proofs. Supply is capped at 21 million coins, and the network has been running since October 2016.
Is Zcash really private?
Only shielded transactions are private. When ZEC moves between shielded addresses, the chain confirms the payment without showing who paid whom or how much. Transfers between transparent addresses are as visible as Bitcoin payments. Privacy also depends on habits, since moving coins in and out of the shielded pool can reveal patterns.
Who created Zcash?
Zcash was launched in 2016 by a team led by Zooko Wilcox, based on the Zerocash research design for private payments. The Electric Coin Company led development for years. In January 2026 its staff left the nonprofit Bootstrap and formed a new company, while the Zcash Foundation and other teams continue their own work.
What is the Zcash price right now?
One ZEC is worth about $1,219.06 on FMchart's composite feed, which combines quotes from several large exchanges. Trading volume over the past 24 hours comes to roughly $335.2M across the exchanges in FMchart's composite. A single exchange may quote a slightly different number. The 24-hour change and range sit beside the headline price.
How many Zcash coins are there, and what is ZEC's market cap?
About 17,007,558 ZEC are in circulation, out of a hard cap of 21 million. At the current price that gives Zcash a market capitalization near $20.73B and rank 10 among cryptocurrencies. New coins still come from mining, and each halving, roughly every four years, slows that issuance further.
What is the highest price Zcash has ever reached?
Zcash's all-time high is $3,191.93, recorded on Oct 28, 2016. ZEC has had long declines and sharp rallies since its 2016 launch, so the distance from that record has changed a lot over time. A past peak does not predict future prices. The Price Statistics panel also shows the all-time low and today's distance from each.
How has ZEC performed month by month?
In FMchart's composite price history (since December 2020), Zcash's strongest month is October 2025 (+445.2%) and its weakest is June 2022 (-41.6%). The Monthly Returns (USD) table gives each month's change, and the Annual Price (USD) Change table sums up each year. ZEC's moves have been uneven, so a few months can dominate. Past returns do not predict future ones.
What is the Zcash halving?
The Zcash halving cuts the block reward in half about every four years, slowing the creation of new ZEC. The second halving happened in November 2024. Part of each reward pays for development. Since November 2025, 8% supports Zcash Community Grants and 12% goes to a coinholder-controlled fund. Miners keep the other 80%.
Is Zcash a good investment?
FMchart does not give investment advice. Zcash offers well-studied privacy technology and a fixed supply. It also faces regulatory scrutiny of privacy coins, uneven exchange access between countries, competition from other privacy projects and changes in who funds development. ZEC's price has historically been very volatile.
What affects the price of ZEC?
ZEC tends to follow the broader crypto market, led by Bitcoin. Zcash-specific factors include public interest in financial privacy, network upgrades, wallet support for shielded payments, exchange listings and regulatory news about privacy coins. Mining issuance and halvings shape new supply, and disputes over development funding can affect sentiment.
