Futures Overview Perpetual futures data FMchart collects from exchange APIs every 5 minutes. Totals cover the exchanges listed under Data Coverage, not the entire market.

Market-wide futures snapshot across exchanges. Track open interest, volume, funding rates and key metrics, updated every 5 minutes.

Total Open Interest Sum of open interest in USD (one side, contracts × price) across the exchanges in scope. 24h change compares the same contracts 24 hours earlier, so newly added contracts do not count as growth.

—

24h Futures Volume Rolling 24-hour trading volume of the perpetual contracts in scope, as reported by each exchange (spot volume excluded), counting each trade once. Only exchanges whose volume figure FMchart has verified are included.

—

Funding Rate (OI-weighted) Current funding rate of each contract converted to an 8-hour equivalent (rate × 8 ÷ funding interval), averaged with each contract's open interest as weight. Annualized = 8h rate × 3 × 365.

—

Long/Short Ratio Ratio of accounts holding net long vs net short positions, as published by one exchange for one coin (default: BTC on Binance). Account ratios are not ratios of money long vs short and are not combined across exchanges.

—

Tracked Contracts Perpetual contracts with a price update in the last 15 minutes across the exchanges FMchart collects (FMchart tracks roughly the top 150 coins by open interest, not every listed contract).

—

Tracked Exchanges Exchanges with at least one contract updated in the last 15 minutes. Futures Volume counts Active Contracts / Exchanges differently (volume above $0 in the window). Exchanges whose data terms do not allow display are counted but not named.

—

Total Open Interest & Price

Open interest history in USD (left axis) and the median mark price across exchanges (right axis). To avoid false jumps, the history only includes contracts with data from the start of the selected range.
Open Interest

Futures Volume

Perpetual futures trading volume per period, stacked by exchange (hourly data reported by each exchange). Exchanges that only publish a rolling 24-hour figure are counted in the KPI but cannot be shown per period.

Funding Rate (OI-weighted)

For every hour, the funding rate of the period covering that hour, converted to an 8-hour equivalent and weighted by each contract's current open interest. Positive: longs pay shorts. Not annualized.

Long/Short Ratio

Share of long vs short as published by the selected exchange for one coin. Global accounts: all accounts with an open position. Top trader accounts / positions: the exchange's largest traders by account count or by position size. Never combined across exchanges.

Top Coins by Open Interest

All coins ranked by open interest in USD, summed over the selected exchange(s); when a coin is selected its row is highlighted. OI 24h compares the same contracts 24 hours earlier. Price: median mark price across exchanges. L/S: Binance global account ratio (only shown when Binance publishes it for the coin).

Top Exchanges by Open Interest

Open interest per exchange in USD and its share of the open interest FMchart tracks (not of the whole market). Exchanges whose data terms do not allow display are combined into Other exchanges. Methodology

Open interest is the value of outstanding perpetual futures contracts, counted on one side (long = short), the convention used by Binance and CME, in USD at the price when it was recorded. Bybit, Gate, Bitget and Hyperliquid publish a figure that adds longs and shorts together; FMchart halves it so exchanges can be compared and added up, so sites showing those raw figures will show about twice FMchart's number for these exchanges. Changes over 24 hours compare the same contracts at both times, so a newly listed contract or newly added exchange is not shown as growth. Volume is each exchange's rolling 24-hour perpetual volume, counting each trade once (exchanges that count both sides of a trade are halved); spot volume and liquidations are separate. The funding rate of every contract is converted to an 8-hour equivalent and averaged with open interest as weight; annualized figures are labelled as such. Long/short ratios are published per exchange and per coin and are never averaged across exchanges.

Data Coverage

Perpetual swaps from Binance, Bybit, Bitget, Gate, Hyperliquid, Lighter, Kraken and dYdX, plus other exchanges FMchart collects and includes in totals without naming them. Margin currency: USDT on the centralized exchanges (USD on Kraken), USDC on Hyperliquid and Lighter, USD on dYdX. FMchart tracks roughly the top 150 coins by open interest. Data updates every 5 minutes (long/short ratios hourly). Open interest history for most exchanges starts on 14 Oct 2026 (Binance from 17 Sep, Bybit and Gate earlier), so longer ranges include fewer contracts — the chart states the share it covers. USDC-margined and coin-margined contracts on centralized exchanges, dated futures and options are not included.

Frequently Asked Questions

1What does the Futures Overview show?

A market-wide snapshot of crypto perpetual futures across exchanges: total open interest, 24-hour perpetual volume, the open-interest-weighted funding rate, long/short ratios, and the top coins and exchanges by open interest. Data updates every 5 minutes; long/short ratios update hourly.

2How does FMchart count open interest?

Open interest is counted on one side (long = short), the convention used by Binance and CME, in USD at the price when it was recorded. Bybit, Gate, Bitget and Hyperliquid publish a figure that adds longs and shorts together, so FMchart halves it to make exchanges comparable and additive.

3Why can open interest here be lower than on other sites?

Sites that show the raw figures from Bybit, Gate, Bitget or Hyperliquid count both sides, so their numbers for these exchanges are about twice FMchart's. Coverage also differs: USDC-margined and coin-margined contracts on centralized exchanges, dated futures and options are not included.

4How is the funding rate averaged?

The funding rate of every contract is converted to an 8-hour equivalent and averaged with open interest as the weight. Annualized figures are labelled as such.

5Are long/short ratios averaged across exchanges?

No. Long/short ratios are published per exchange and per coin and are never averaged across exchanges.

6Which exchanges and coins are included?

Perpetual swaps from Binance, Bybit, Bitget, Gate, Hyperliquid, Lighter, Kraken and dYdX, plus other exchanges FMchart collects and includes in totals without naming them. FMchart tracks roughly the top 150 coins by open interest. Open interest history for most exchanges starts on 14 Oct 2026, so longer ranges include fewer contracts.
