Methodology

Ratios come from each exchange's own hourly long/short statistics. The account ratio is long accounts ÷ short accounts; the top trader account and position ratios cover the exchange's largest traders by accounts and by position size; the taker buy/sell ratio measures aggressive buying against aggressive selling and says nothing about open positions. These four measures are different and are never substituted for each other, and they are never averaged across exchanges because exchanges count accounts differently. Price and price change use the same exchange's mark price; changes compare the latest value with the last value before the start of the selected window. Bubble size is the contract's rolling 24-hour volume on that exchange. Data older than two hours is marked as delayed and left out of the chart and the rankings. Missing values are shown as —, never as zero. Extreme positioning describes sentiment and is not a forecast.

Data Coverage

Perpetual contracts on Binance, Bybit, Bitget and Gate (USDT-margined) and Kraken (USD-margined) — the exchanges that publish long/short statistics FMchart collects. Bybit publishes the account ratio only; Bitget the account and taker ratios; Kraken the account and top trader account ratios; top trader position ratios come from Binance and Gate. Kraken volume is not shown (not yet verified), so its bubbles use the smallest size. Updated hourly; history starts on 17 Sep 2026. Bitget only publishes its latest 30 hours, so its history begins when FMchart started collecting it (Oct 2026) and its 7D / 30D changes appear once that much history has built up. FMchart tracks roughly the top 150 coins by open interest; Bitget publishes these statistics for a small set of contracts only (about 13 coins in Oct 2026, e.g. BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP), so most coins have no Bitget row. These five exchanges do not represent the whole market.
