How Spot Flow Analytics is calculated
Taker buy and sell volume
Taker buy volume counts trades where the buyer was the taker; taker sell volume counts trades where the seller was the taker. Each trade is counted once, taken directly from each exchange's trade feed. All values are in USD: USDT and USDC markets are converted at the measured hourly stablecoin rate.
Net Buy/Sell and CVD
Net Buy/Sell = Taker Buy − Taker Sell. Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD) starts at 0 at the start of the selected date range: CVD(t) = CVD(t−1) + Net(t). The CVD Change of a candle equals its Net Buy/Sell.
Buy Ratio and Pressure Index
Buy Ratio = Buy / (Buy + Sell) × 100. Pressure Index = (Buy − Sell) / (Buy + Sell) × 100, from −100 to +100 (equal to Buy Ratio − Sell Ratio). A candle is Buying above +2, Selling below −2, and Neutral in between.
Flow Strength
Flow Strength is the z-score of the current rolling 24H Pressure against the rolling 24H Pressure measured every hour over the last 30 days for the same coin. Buying at +0.5σ or more, Selling at -0.5σ or less, otherwise Neutral. With less than 7 days of history it is shown as N/A.
Exchanges included
Exchanges: Binance, Bybit, KuCoin, Kraken, Bitget, Gate and other exchanges. An exchange is added to a range only when it reports at least 95% of the 5-minute intervals in that range, so totals always compare the same set of exchanges. The exchanges used are listed under the chart.
Data gaps
A candle with less than 95% coverage from the included exchanges is shown as N/A, never filled with zero; CVD stays flat across it. Only closed candles are shown, 60 seconds after each 5-minute interval ends.
Timeframe and date range
Timeframe sets the candle size; date range sets the period. Limits: 5m up to 7 days, 15m up to 30 days, 1H up to 90 days, 4H up to 92 days, 1D and 1W up to 2 years. A combination outside these limits switches to the nearest valid timeframe and says so. All times are UTC.
Key Takeaways rules
CVD Trend: CVD Change ÷ total taker volume of the range at +1% or more is Rising, −1% or less is Falling, otherwise Flat. Buy/Sell Pressure is Balanced when Buy Ratio and Sell Ratio differ by less than 2 points. Flow Momentum compares the Pressure of the second half of the range with the first half. Price vs CVD compares the price change (flat within ±0.5%) with the CVD Trend. Fixed rules, no AI.
Frequently asked questions
What is Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD)?
CVD is the running total of taker buy volume minus taker sell volume. On this page it starts at 0 at the start of the selected date range, so a rising line means buyers took liquidity more aggressively than sellers during that period.
What does the Pressure Index measure?
Pressure Index = (Buy − Sell) / (Buy + Sell) × 100. It ranges from −100 (all taker volume was selling) to +100 (all taker volume was buying); between −2 and +2 it is treated as Neutral.
How is Flow Strength calculated?
It compares the current rolling 24H Pressure with the hourly 24H Pressure history of the last 30 days as a z-score: Buying at +0.5σ or more, Selling at -0.5σ or less, Neutral otherwise.
Which exchanges are included?
Binance, Bybit, KuCoin, Kraken, Bitget, Gate and other exchanges. Only exchanges with at least 95% data coverage in the selected range are added; the list is shown under the chart.
