How to use the Stock Screener

How do I use the Stock Screener?

Pick a preset such as Top Gainers, or set your own conditions in the filter bar: market, sector, market cap, price, daily change and volume. More Filters adds stock type, average volume, RSI (14), price versus the 50- and 200-day moving averages and 52-week conditions. Every active condition appears as a chip that you can remove on its own; Clear All removes them all and Reset All also resets search, sorting and page size. Search, sorting and pages always cover the whole filtered list, and the address bar keeps your filters so you can share the link.

Which stocks are covered?

US-listed common stocks and ADRs (depositary receipts of non-US companies) on NASDAQ, NYSE and NYSE American that have a daily price bar for the latest US session. Stocks without a bar for that session, for example halted or delisted ones, are not listed. Stocks listed only outside the US are not covered yet.

How current is the data?

This screener uses end-of-day data: prices, daily change and volume come from the latest completed US session and are updated after the US close. It is not real-time. Market cap, sector and industry come from the daily Nasdaq listing snapshot, which can lag the price by a session.

How are the technical values calculated?

RSI (14) uses Wilder's smoothing over up to 120 daily closes. The 50- and 200-day moving averages are simple averages of daily closes and are only shown when a stock has the full number of sessions. A new 52-week high means the latest session's high reached or exceeded the highest high of the previous 251 sessions; a new 52-week low is the same with lows. Stocks with less than about a year of history have no 52-week values.

What do the presets mean?

Most Active: price at least $5, sorted by shares traded. Top Gainers and Top Losers: price at least $5 and up or down on the day, sorted by daily change. New 52W Highs and Lows: stocks that set a new 52-week high or low in the latest session. The $5 floor keeps penny stocks out of the movers lists and shows up as a removable filter.
