Ethereum (ETH) Market Overview: Spot, Derivatives & Dominance

Ethereum market data from spot and derivatives venues sits together here: the composite ETH price, market cap and rank, spot volume and ETH dominance, plus open interest, funding and liquidations from the exchanges FMchart tracks. As the second-largest crypto asset, Ether is often read against Bitcoin, and the market share panel makes that comparison direct.

Data transparency

  • Price and spot volume: FMChart composite candles for ETH built from several spot exchanges, hourly; the 24H spot volume sums the last 24 closed hourly candles.
  • Market cap and rank: FMChart market snapshot (composite price × circulating supply), refreshed every minute.
  • Open interest: one side of ETH perpetual futures, summed over the derivatives exchanges FMChart collects; the exchange breakdown is the latest snapshot.
  • Funding: rate of each exchange converted to an 8-hour equivalent (rate × 8 ÷ settlement interval), weighted by open interest.
  • Liquidations: long and short liquidations reported by the exchanges FMChart collects.
  • Liquidation heatmap: estimated from open interest, prices and an estimated leverage mix — not liquidations that have happened (same model as the Liquidation Heatmap page), last 30 days.
  • Long/short ratio: Binance global accounts ratio, hourly (only when Binance publishes it for ETH).
  • Market share: FMChart Market Indices, hourly closed candles. Last candle: loading…
  • Scope: totals cover the exchanges FMChart collects, not the whole market. Times are UTC.

Ethereum FAQ

How does Ethereum's market share compare with Bitcoin's?

The market share panel lists ETH's market-cap dominance, spot volume share, derivatives volume share and open interest share. The Bitcoin page shows the same four figures for BTC, so you can see whether Ether's trading and leverage are growing faster or slower than its weight in the market.

How do I use the Ethereum liquidation heatmap?

The heatmap plots estimated ETH liquidation levels over 30 days of price. Concentrated bands above the price suggest where leveraged shorts may be forced out; bands below suggest where longs are exposed. Treat it as a model of possible pressure points, not a forecast, and check it against open interest and funding.

Why show Ethereum spot volume next to open interest?

Spot volume measures ETH actually changing hands, while open interest measures leveraged contracts left open. If open interest climbs while spot volume stays flat, the move is driven more by derivatives; if both rise together, spot buyers and sellers are taking part as well.

Is the ETH price taken from one exchange?

No. The price is the FMchart composite index, built from Ethereum spot prices on the exchanges FMchart tracks and updated hourly. Market cap multiplies that price by circulating supply, so a single venue's quirks carry less weight in either figure.
